Romneya coulteri or the Californian Tree Poppy is also sometimes referred to as the Fried Egg Plant - for obvious reasons.
These are highly ornamental plants that are an absolute delight when in flower throughout summer, looking, as they do, like fried-eggs on stalks. Romneya coulteri are an excellent choice for locations that can suffer from drought. They do need water to get established but can withstand long dry periods once they get their roots in. Good for Mediterranean style gardens as well as fitting in perfectly to a cottage style, deep, mixed border or other informal settings.
