Walking up the road path from thewharf one sees first an old carpentershop, then the Post Office. Thereare several old houses upon thisisland, for its history dates backnearly as far as that of Plymouth,Massachusetts. Some of the island-. Scattered along thisroad are the homes of the fishermen,the one little store that the islandboasts of, a small school house, a littlechurch, a very few summer residentscottages, a few artists bungalowsand two small hotels. This roadwinds along rather irregularly withplenty of rocks to stumble over. There is one house on the islandthat draws attention at once. It iscalled the Influence and is of a verydifferent type from the others. Vari-ous romantic stories hover over thisquaint and mysterious looking housewhich was built by other hands thanthat of fishermen evidently, for it isthe style of architecture one finds inother countries.
