Daedalus and Icarus
In Greek mythology, Daedalus (left) was the builder of the labyrinth at Knossos in Crete, designed to keep the Minotaur within. To escape his confinement on the island by the king, he designed wings of wax and feathers for himself and his son Icarus (right). But Icarus flew too close to the sun. The wax melted, and he fell into the sea, named after the Icarian Sea. Daedalus made it to Sicily where he was said to have died later. This relief is in Rome, Italy, at the Villa Albani.
