The Battle of Aboukir, Egypt, 1801. The result of sea power. A force of 5000 British troops landed on the beach at Abu Qir on 8th March 1801. They succeeded in dislodging an entrenched French army of 2000 men, but suffered heavy casualties in the process, with their commander, General Sir Ralph Abercromby amongst the dead.
