Silk textile with Seraphim and Crosses 17th century Ottoman This textile may be compared with another textile in the Museum’s collection (–d) with a very similar pattern, but incorporating metal-wrapped threads. The all-silk version would have been less expensive to manufacture, and could possibly have been a provincial imitation of textiles produced in Constantinople and Bursa. Note that the Greek letters of the inscriptions have been reversed. The size and shape of the piece suggest that it formed part of a phelonion, or Silk textile with Seraphim and Crosses 214318
