Electrical news and engineering . presented herewith. It includes a concrete flume witha quarter turn flaring draft tube moulded in the solid con-crete of the foundation. The setting is of the vertical type THE ELECTRICAL NEWS with ring, gates and cover plate supported on a concretepedestal in the flurnie bottom, and with runner, shaft andgenerator rotor supported by a General Electric spring thrustbearing supported on the generator stator. The circular pitbeneath the generator permits inspection of exciter, govern-or pump, governor fly-ball and brake pulleys mounted alsoon the turbine shaft. The braces from the turbine coverplate to ithe flume walls, as well as the intermediate guidebearing supports and the brake supporting frame, are boltfastened and removable, so that if necessity should arise theturbine runner may be hauled up through the opening in thepower-house floor within the generator pedestal. To close oflf the water from the flume a timber gate andhoisting mechanism is provided in front of the power-house,. and for safetys sake emergency stop-log checks are alsoprovided. A flap valve permits of un-watering the flume be-low the level of the turbine gates. Access to the interior ofthe flume can be hid through a trap-door in the power-housefloor and iron ladder rungs in the flume wall. The flume is of reinforced concrete 12 feet 6 inches wideby 33 feet long inside dimensions. A reinforced concrete deckforms the power-house floor. The weight of the generator, shaft and turbine runner is carried on an I beam resting onthe flume walls. The rating of the new hydraulic unit for 24 feet head is825 at full gate and 180 The generator rating is750 at 80% P. F., 6600 volt, 3 phase, 180 Although no opportunity has yet arisen for testing thenew plant, the guaranteed turbine efficiency curve runs frojn73% at half-gate to 88% at .95 gate, dropping off to about80% at full gate. This is in sharp contrast to the efficienciesobtained from the old plan
