Visitors watch young male polar bears Walker and Arktos at feeding time from viewing area, Highland Wildlife Park, Scotland UK
The Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig, near Kingussie in the Scottish Highlands, is home to the only polar bears (two young males named Walker and Arktos) in a public collection in the UK. The bear enclosure, opened in 2009, includes a natural pond, and at over four acres in size is the largest in Europe. At lunchtime every day visitors gather at a viewing area to see the bears close at hand, as a keeper throws titbits of food over the fence for them (the main meat- based feeds take place elsewhere). The two young bears are not related, and arrived at different times, but have become great friends and play together.
