The Horned Screamer (Palamedea cornuta, fig. 46) is a Bird ofvery singular aspect, since a delicate horn, about 5 or 6 incheslong, curves upwards and forwards from about the middle of itsLead. It has a short beak and large feet, and each of its wingshas a long, strong, and sharp spur. It does not scream so loudly asdo two allied species (Ghauna), which have no horn. TheHorned Screamer is said to be a quiet peaceable bird in spiteof its spurred name of a curious Bird from New Caledonia must not Mg. 45.
