Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: The main entry point for slaves in the Americas is a candidate for World Heritage by UN / UNESCO. Cais do Valongo, built in 1811, was used until 1831 for the arrival of slaves from Africa to Brazil. It is estimated that in the 20 years it was used, between 500,000 and 1 million slaves were landed on the spot and marketed in the region. The site was buried for more than 100 years, when it was rediscovered in works of the port region of Rio for the Olympic Games Rio 2016. Currently the place is a tourist spot with the archaeological site open to visitation. Image produced on June 28, 2017.
