Work starts on rebuilding lock 11 on the Marple flight of locks on the Peak forest canal. The stone walls of the lock moved inwards so boats can't fit.

Cw 6456 Work starts on rebuilding lock 11 at Marple. Work starts on rebuilding lock 11 on the Marple flight of locks on the Peak forest canal to the east of Manchester. Following on from a rebuild and reopening of lock 15 higher up the flight over the winter of 2017 -18 it was found that the walls of the chamber of lock 11 had moved inwards and it had become to narrow for boats to pass through it. A plan has been developed to now rebuild lock 11 and work has now started with the establishment of a contractor’s compound in the park alongside the lock. On workmen are starting to fence off the work site around the lock. It is anticipated that the canal will reopen in March 2019.
