When syringing, the water should run out ofthe opposite nostril or out of the mouth. The other method is to hold the child erect on the lapwith the head inclined a little forward, the syringing beingdone by a person who stands Fig. log.—Method for syringing nose. Just as small an amount of pressure should be exertedwhen syringing the nose as possible, on account of thedanger of forcing the infection into the Eustachian tubeand causing an otitis media. Syringing of the Mouth and Pharynx.—A Davidson syringe may be used. If the pharynx is to be reached thenozzle is used as a tongue depressor. This should beplaced at the angle of the mouth between the back child should be held in the sitting posture, with thehead incliaed forward.
