Opium poppies (Papaver somniferum), grown to provide morphine, codeine, and thebaine for pharmaceutical industry. Tasmania is the only location in the southern hemisphere where narcotic poppies are allowed to be grown. Intensive cropping, flowering stage; the crop will be ready for harvesting once the flowers fall off and the remaining capsule ripens, usually in late January.
