Montefiorino is dominated by its fortress, bulwark of this valley. Until 1170 it was uninhabited Montefiorino the hill. In that year Montecuccoli Bernard, head of the monastery of Frassinoro defenses, you did raise, to guard the northern borders of the Lands of the Abbey, an imposing tower, around which, in the years after 1234, during the most bitter dispute between the monastery and the Municipality of Modena, was built the original castle.
