Cyclotrons at the Large Heavy Ion National Accelerator (Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds) in Caen, France. The physicist who designs the experiment chooses the energy and number of particles for accelerating ions. This is achieved through two successive cyclotrons: CSS1 and CSS2. In these cyclotrons, ions are accelerated and kept on circular trajectories.
