Sperm concentration. Hand places a tube of sperm in fluid into a centrifuge during an in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedure. The centrifuge will be used to concentrate and separate the sperm from the other fluids in the mixture. During IVF treatment, donor sperm are prepared for frozen storage in liquid nitrogen. When an egg becomes available, the fertilisation is performed in artificial culture and the resulting embryo implanted directly into the female's uterus. IVF is a specialist technique that has been used to treat fertility disorders worldwide.
