An old stand of pine on eroded lands now healed over by fire control and tree and other plant growth. Soil deficiencies, a result of erosion are causing slow growth and dying of pines before reaching a large size. These dying pines are marked for cutting and marketed by the Forest Service in order to salvage the timber before it dies.
