The greatest heat, 90°, occurred on in 1838. This is a great novplly—an extremoly curious plant, liolauioally consiilpretl, ami an interesting acUlitioii to our list of liall'-liardy bullis; allliough it is not in reality a line bulb, but a luberous-routed jilaiit. It belongs to tbe natural order Lilyworts, but its true jiosition in tbe order is not yet sufficiently defined. It would seem to unile in itself tbe two extremes ot tbe order, having tbe Fritilbuia I'rom among tbe true Lilies, and much of tlie structural form of tlie Couvalaria at the other end of the order. All such come into tbe Hi-xnndria monoyijnin of Linnseus. Tbe germs has just been named by Sir W. J.
