Tacade of the Biblioteca Comunale degli Intronati, a historic public library (1758) located in the old town of Siena, Unesco Site, Tuscany, Italy

The Public Library of the Intronati (Italian: Biblioteca Comunale degli Intronati) is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the city of Siena. The library's origins date to 1758, when the archdeacon and local economist Sallustio Bandini donated his library to the University of Siena, on the condition that it grant public access. Currently, the library's collection of printed books and manuscripts is estimated at over half a million units. Special value have documents from the time of Renaissance and Reformation. The library owes its present name to Fabio Bargagli Petrucci, mayor of Siena, who in 1932 attributed it to the institute in memory of the ancient Sienese literary academy of the Intronati who had occupied part of the premises of Sapienza from 1722 to 1802.
