Smokey Bear Likeness Near Location Original Smokey Bear was Found


Capitan, New Mexico - A cutout of Smokey Bear stands below the Capitan Mountains, where a badly burned bear cub was found clinging to a tree after a forest fire in 1950. The bear was taken to the National Zoo in Washington and became the Forest Service's symbol of fire prevention.
