He then entered the Scientificdepartment, where he remained oneyear. He was in the employ of MorrillJ. Walker, Union Village, Thetford,1848-51; Alonzo George, Post Mills,1851-53; Baxter & Hall, Derby Line,1853-54. In 1854, he located in WestMitch(!ll, Mitchell Co., Iowa, andformed a partnership with his elderbrother, John Sweatt, in conductingan extensive mercantile and real estatebusiness. He was married January 1, 1865 at Mitchell, Iowa, to Cornelia ElizabethLyons, a native of New York who died March 30, 1904. They had one child,a son, William Richard, a graduate of the Shattuck Military Academy, Fari-bault, Minnesota, now president of the Electric Heat Regulator Co., Miime-apolis. BVT. MAJ. EVAN W.
