Penly nuclear power station, next to the cliffs of Saint-Martin-en-Campagne and Penly, in the departement of Seine-Maritime, Normandy, on the English Channel coast. This power station contains two 1290 MW (megawatt) pressurized water reactors (PWR). PWRs are relatively inefficient, and about 60 percent of the heat energy generated escapes as the water coolant is 'dumped' usually into the sea, lake or river alongside the plant.
