Conrad in the other. Allred Bros, own and operate the only mercantilehouse in Chester and do a business of about |5,000 annu-ally. They also have the postofflce and distribute mailtwice every day. Chester citizens are veterans in Indianwais and peaceably inclined people, but when the coun-try demanded assistance in the Avar with Spain to freethe Cubans from bondage two patriotic young men re-sponded. Theo C. Candland was accepted and AndrewNelson rejected on account of defect, in eyesight. Otherswere anxious to enlist and would have entered the ser-vice of the Government if another call had been made fortroops. Chester has a well organized
