The SEROW (Capricornis sumatrensis). Serow, serowa of Gurhwal and \ Salabhir. Yamu, Kulu. Aimu, , , Chamba. Serows are clumsily built ruminants generally larger than gorals,.with face-glands and longer horns. The ears are long ; the hair iscoarse, rather thin, and elongated into a crest from the nape to thewithers ; the under fur found in the gorals being usually absent. Inthe typical species the general colour of the upper-parts is normallyblack or dark grey, with a grizzled appearance, owing to the whitishbases of the hairs ; the under-parts, shoulders, and thighs being rustyred. There is, however, great local variation ; some races beingwholly or mainly rufous and others black, while the lower portion ofthe legs may be white or rufous or a mixture of both.
