The community consist mostly of middle aged and elderly rastafarians. About 120 RDP houses have been built for them by the government, there is a community hall , a tabernacle and a community preschool built by the community. They have a community based factory producing hem material production. A few years ago during the early 90’s, sons and daughters of immigrant hostel dwellers, back yard dwellers from the Cape Town black townships gathered to follow Rastafarian culture and tradition. Many of the interested youth organised weekend gigs teaching the culture and traditions. Prominent rastafarians from within SA were invited to join these gatherings to share information. Rastafarism grew rapidly amongst some the youth. To strengthen rastafarism lifestyles they had to leave their luxurious homes (Babilon) and had to live in the jungle. This was a voluntary call made to all those who were interested. To many of the interested youth this was the end as many were still under the control of their parents. A group of about 20 youth disappeared from their home and settled in and un-developed, untouched bush area at the borders of the Mitchells-plain community. They collected wood, plastic and corrugated iron sheets and started putting up their own houses. They cleared a pierce of land and started cultivating it to produce vegetables. They intensified teaching on the culture and behaviors.
