When aboutone week later rupture of the abscessand evacuation of the pus through abronchus did occur, the inflammatoryconsolidation subsided rapidly. Theprocess did not go on to spontaneoushealing, however, and considerable evi-dence of a persistence of the lesion wasleft on the radiogram. Subsequent ex-acerbations left the entire lower portonof the lung filled with multiple ab-scess cavities. One other case of lung abscess fol-lowing tonsillectomy began in preciselythe same manner and ran the sameradiological course.
