Something special is a day trip by boat on the canal for some kilometers between Elblag and Ostroda. Here the boats are pulled over five inclined planes to overcome a height difference of 325 feet. There are only a few places worldwide, where this technical masterpiece of the 19th century is used. The inclined planes are listed by UNSESCO as a memorial to world culture inheritances. Watching a boat beeing pulled uphill by a wooden wagon, you feel reminded of the dramatic transport of a riverboat through the jungles of the Amazon in Werner Herzog's film "Fitzcarraldo" with Klaus Kinski.
