Given the same care and conditions, the product from two lots of Onion Seed of same variety, but from different sonrces, may be so tmeqnal in the quality of merchantable onions that the good seed (at fair price) would have been the cheaper at ten times the cost (cheap) of the inferior. CULTUREâThe Onion mnst have a clean and very rich soil. Use well rotted manure freely, and be sure to get the seed in as early as possible in the spring; no matter if it is ever so cold and unpleasant, for if Onions do not get a good l^roTTth before hot, dry weather, the crop may be a failure. Sow the Seed in shallow drills, not less than a foot apart, -and thin out when the young Onions are about the size of â qnills. In doing this, disturb those that remain as little as X'Ossible. In hoeing to destroy weeds keep the ground xiellow, but do not cover the young bulbs with earth. As Onions grow on the top of the ground they may be allowed to remain pretty thick, no matter if they crowd each other, particularly if they arc growing for sets.
