Diabetes, drawing

Illustration of type 2 diabetes. Blood sugar levels are regulated by insulin secreted by the pancreas. In a healthy individual (the top part of the blood vessel), insulin allows glucose to be absorbed by muscle cells which use it to function, and by liver cells which stock it in case of need. In the case of type 2 diabetes (lower part of the blood vessel), muscle cells and the liver become resistant to insulin’s action, limiting glucose absorption which then accumulates in the blood causing hypoglycemia.
