INSECTS AFFECTING MAN AND ANIMALS STATUS OF THE SCREW-WORM (Cochliomyia hominlvorax) IN THE SOUTHWEST Cold weather continues to assist screw-worm eradication efforts through a succes- sion of cold waves which have penetrated deeply into Texas. Fifty-three specimens were received this week, all of which were oviposited prior to the cold wave on January 13. Infestations being reported are declining each day. It is antici- pated that the small populations able to survive the cold weather will be over- whelmed by sterile flies released over southern Texas. A total of 46,695,150 sterile screw-worm flies was released during the period January 13-19, with 53 screw-worm cases being reported during the same period. (Anim. Dis. Erad. Div.).
