These reports are madeout by the shop foremen and assembled by the superintendent of car equipment for a monthlyreport to the general superin-tendent. A noteworthy featureof these reports is that variousmanufacturers are furnishedwith reports of the troubles re-lating to their equipment. Inthis way they have an oppor-tunity of determining what theirapparatus is doing in serviceeven when the railway companydoes not ask directly for assist-ance in solving maintenanceproblems.
