Little auk (Alle alle), 19th century artwork. Also known as the dovekie, this small seabird inhabits coastal areas in the Arctic and northern Atlantic. It swims underwater to feed on crustaceans. Breeding takes place on islands in the high Arctic in summer, after which this bird moves south for the winter. Artwork published in 1866.
