Shuttle Columbia image (mission STS-52) centred on the Sinai peninsula. It has a triangular shape and extends from centre with its tip at bottom right, forming the Gulf of Suez (lower centre to bottom right) and the Gulf of Aqaba (bottom right) both in the Red Sea. Cyprus is visible, partly covered by clouds, at centre left in the Mediterranean Sea. The fertile valley and delta of the Nile are seen (dark) at bottom left silhouetted against the surrounding desert. The border between Egypt and Israel is found in the Sinai peninsula (centre frame) corresponding to the area marked by a sudden colour variation between the light desert and the darker brushland.
