Ruthven Barracks from the B970

Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie was built in 1719 after the 1715 Jacobite rising and stands on a castle mound which was the site of earlier fortifcations. Garrisioned by the English Redcoat army until the 1745 Jacobite rising it was finally captured and burned down by the Scots in 1746. The site now remains largely as it was left after the rebellion.
