Hospital antiseptic. Bottles of Betadine at a hospital. Betadine is a topical antiseptic composed of povidone-iodine (PVPI). It is available in two forms. A solution (right) that is used for cleaning minor wounds and to clean a patient's skin prior to surgery. And a surgical scrub (right), which is a mixture of PVPI and deterent, that is a disinfectant hand and skin wash used for cleansing hands prior to surgery and other procedures.
