England's nine day Queen. On the 10 July 1553, Lady Jane Grey is proclaimed queen at the Tower. But because she attracts little support, with most people preferring to back Mary Tudor as the rightful heir despite her religion, she reigns little more than a fortnight. She is executed on 12 February 1554. Lady Jane Grey had been raised, with her two sisters, at Bradgate, now known as Bradgate Country Park, Leicester. Lady Jane Grey (1537-54) She was a viable heir to the English throne because of her maternal grandmother, Princess Mary Tudor. Jane was the great-niece of King Henry VIII.
