Coast Guard Commander Awarded Legion of Merit. Coast Guard Commander Ralph Roy Curry receives the congratulations of his two small daughters, Helen Kate (left) and Constance Ruddy, on his receiving the award of the Legion of Merit at ceremonies in the office of Vice Admiral Russell R. Waesche, Commandant of the Coast Guard, at Headquarters in Washington, Thursday. A native of Viola, Mo., Commander Curry was educated in the schools of Aurora, Mo., and in Springfield Teachers College at Springfield, Mo., before receiving appointment to the Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn. in 1927. Graduated with the rank of ensign in 1931, he later studied law at George Washington University at Washington, His wife, the former Mary Rose Ruddy, and their two daughters live at 1648 Preston Road, Alexandria, Va.
