The flying bat and squid nebulae - Sh2-129 & OU4

A mysterious object, faint but also extended in the sky of our planet Earth, an imposing nebula that brings to mind one of the most terrifying sea monsters, the giant squid. Discovered in the constellation of Cepheus in 2011 by the French astro-imager Nicolas Outters and then named with the acronym OU4, it is located in the heart of a star-forming region listed at number 129 of the Shapley Catalog (Sh2-129), known among the insiders also with the name of Flying Bat Nebula (bat nebula).
