Glasswing, or clearwing, butterfly (Greta oto) on a leaf. This butterfly, also named espejitos ('little mirrors'), is so called because it has predominately glass-like transparent wing membranes. This adaptation is a defence against predators, who find it difficult to recognise the insect as a butterfly when it is either in flight or feeding. Photographed in Toachi Pilaton valley, Pichincha, Ecuador
