The Borus - Dog Heads - from Marco Polo

Marco Polo was a Venetian traveler who left Venice, Italy, with his father and brother in 1271; arrived in China in 1275, where Kublai Khan had his court; and returned home in 1294. The Borus was a name some medieval European travelers often called the Prussians. While some people thought the idea of dog faces meant they were miserable people, others said that the fact that the people had dog-like faces meant that they were very brave. This illustration from an old manuscript shows two Borus.
