Thebody is slender and elongated, there is no adipose fin, the pseudo-branchs are concealed and there are no pyloric cceca. The mud-minnowis in some respects allied to the Blind-Fishes of the Southernfetates (Amblyopsidse ), the best known of which and the largestis A. spekeus from the subterranean waters of the MammothCave, Kentucky.
