10/07/14 Christine Redfern, waters 80 giant flower pots for the last time before they are loaded onto a lorry this evening and driven to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. Overnight the three-tiered planters will be put together and placed along the streets of Glasgow. Mark Stone, MD of Plantscape, based near Ashbourne, Derbyshire said: "It's an honour to have won the contract to supply the Commonwealth Games. Millions of people will see them around the World on the TV - It makes us feel very proud". These pots are known as Eyefull Towers and are a fraction of nearly 1,900 individual planters heading to Glasgow between now and the start of the Games on July 23. The 20,000 or so flowers match the event’s official colour scheme by providing displays in red, blue, green and yellow. The Eyefull Towers will each weigh a staggering 500kg once they are filled with 300 litres of water. A unique 'water weir' system stores the water in a series of wells, allowing days between watering. The pots contain six bags of compost and are planted with surfinias, thistles, grasses, sanvitalia, cornflowers, geraniums, cottage garden mixed flowers, and daisies. The contract to supply Glasgow City Council is worth more than £200,000 to Plantscape who supply planters across the World.
