Various sugars, alone and in mixtures, were prepared in the same way without showing any changes in chromatographic characteristics. The pyridine solutions were spotted onto Whatman #3 paper and developed for 16 hr. in a descending flow of ethyl acetate: pyridine ."water, 8:2:1 (v/v/v) (Jermyn and Isherwood, 1949).
