This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product ExoMars TGO instrument testing. Engineer carrying out an inspection in 2106 of the FREND (Fine Resolution Epithermal Neutron Detector) instrument for the European Space Agency's ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) spacecraft. The FREND flight model is at right. The FREND spare flight model is at centre, and the multi-layer insulation (MLI) used to cover the instrumentation is at left. The TGO was launched on 14 March 2016, to arrive at Mars in October 2016. The FREND instrument will be used by TGO to indirectly detect hydrogen by examining neutron flux at the Martian surface. Photographed on 9 January 2016, at Baikonur cosmodrome, Kazakhstan.
