Votive Garuda statue from 1689, kneeling toward the Trailokya Mohan, with Lakshmi Narayan Temple and Maju Dega on its left, Durbar Square, Kathmandu

In Hinduism, Garuda is a Hindu divinity and is the mount (vahana) of the Lord Vishnu. Maju Dega is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, built by Riddhi Lakshmi, the Queen mother of Bhupetendra Malla in 1692. The April 2015 Nepal earthquake completely destroyed the temple, with reconstruction currently in progress. Kathmandu Durbar Square is a historically and culturally significant site in Nepal, and is one of the three royal palace squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
