Cpl. Cameron Wood is a mortar man with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, supporting Northern Viper, Aug. 9-26, 2017. His job as a squad leader for a mortar squad is to oversee and make corrections to the weapons and to his squad. Northern Viper is a combined-joint exercise held to enhance regional cooperation between participating nations to collectively deter security threats. “It is eye-opening working with the Japanese,” said Wood, a Vancouver, Washington native. “I’ve learned a lot being the first to work with our allies out here.”
