A garrison of Louis XIV, Brouage was duty bound to offer to its distinguished guests the luxury worthy of their highest standing; so, such an icebox allowed to make things a bit more interesting by offering desserts and sorbets. La "Glacière" à Brouage:à demi-enterré et couvert par un toit de bardeaux, cet édifice pouvait contenir jusqu'à 22 tonnes de glace (Charente-Maritime - France). Garnison royale, Brouage se devait d'offrir à ses invités de marque un luxe digne de leurs rangs. Une telle glacière paermettait d'améliorer l'ordinaire en offranr entremets et sorbets.
