The lower tubes are for No. 19 traction bars forretruding the cuspids, and as shown in the drawing, they are soldered at thegingival border of the bands, but preference is given to the root-wise extensionspreviously described. The upper tube is for a No. 22 arch traction bow for retrud-ing the incisors. The root-wise position of bothtubes aids in the stability of the upper anchorage tube attached to themodern root-wise attachments is commonlythe one chosen to move the cuspids, as shownin Fig. 184. See Stationary Anchorages. Chap-ter XV. An important feature of the apparatusthat should never be omitted, is the lingual hooks for the attachment of elasticsto prevent the rotation of the cuspids and aid in their retrusive movement. The
