His first connection with watchmakingwas in 1852, when he entered the employ ofDennison, Howard & Davis, at Roxbury, followed the factory to Waltham and wasemployed in the capacity of foxsman of themachine shop and later as master mechanic. In1859 ^^ became master mechanic of the NashuaWatch factory, and designed and built the machin-ery with which that watch was 1864 he joined the Elgin National WatchCompany, then just starting, and was made general superintendent, inwhich capacity he remained with the company until Charles S. Moseley. MOTEL, H. A French chronometer maker, pupil and successor ofLouis Berthoud. His chronometers were remarkable for their closerates and for their beautiful construction. He died in 1859.
