Chemical, microscopical and bacteriological examinations weremade of samples from the Padanaram Reservoir in 1889-90, andpublished in the Fourteenth Annual Report, pages 303-6. Chem-ical and microscopical examinations were made of samples fromthe East Lake and Kohanza supplies, and also from Boggs Pondevery other month during 1896, and are to be found else-where in this report. Below are given the averages of the chem-ical Water Supply op Danielson. Population in 1895, 9,890. The works are owned by the Crys-tal Water Company, and were begun in 1886. A perpetual fran-chise was granted the company. Portions of Killingly andBrooklyn are also supplied. Consumption of water unknown. The source of supply is surface water from Higgins Reservoir, a storage and distributing reservoir, is located 352 STATE BOARD OF HEALTH. about miles northeast of the borough. It is 211,600 squarefeet in area ; bottom rock and gravel. The surface loam wasremoved from about one foot above to six feet below the waterline. No contamination exists. The reservoir distributes by-gravity. In 1889, a fire reservoir was built, 133 feet in diameter and 10feet deep, affording a fire pressure of 75 lbs. The total lengthof mains is about 11 miles.
