Jurassic Landscape
Illustration of an ideal landscape of the Lower Oolite, a limestone formation of the Jurassic Period found in England, from Louis Figuier's The World Before the Deluge, 1867 American edition. Trees and shrubs include cycad-like plants (Pterophyllum and Zamites), tree-ferns and a cypress, as well as Pandanus trees, with aerial roots. Climbing up one Pandanus is a Phascolotherium, "not very unlike to our Opossum," enlarged a little to better show the form. Also visible are a crocodile, an ichthyosaurus skeleton, dragonflies, plesiosaurs, an ammonite and a coral reef.
